Reacting probably to Stephen Moss's new book.

Stephen Morris (not Moss) replied
https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2016/ ... e-of-chess

He mentions the vanishing small chance that an amateur club player would have to beat Carlsen and contrasts it with Backgammon at the level of a single game.

He doesn't mention simuls which place a time and distraction handicap on the giver. Carlsen was up to the task recently, playing a thirty minute clock simul in New York against 11 players.

That format is unlikely to benefit weaker club players who might struggle to complete a game accurately with thirty minute son the clock under normal circumstances.

Edited to clear up Stephen M's
