It is looking likely their will be playoffs in Short - Fernandez and McShane-Hawkins

Is it wrong that I'm quite looking forward to Short moaning about the schedule?

Well the schedule is truly harsh even without play offs added in!

seeds both winning R+P endings in first playoff, I was surprised how Hawkins tried to defend.

3-1 wins for both McShane and Short albeit in the Hawkins-McShane second game the result doesn't tell the whole story.

Any predictions for the semis?

It is Short versus McShane and Jones versus Howell.

David Howell is the defending champion from last year.

Goodness knows over 2 games! The final is a worthwhile match, the rest is inherently very random.

Unless any of the players are adverse to early mornings.....

Does anyone have any idea why the schedule for the semi's is like it is? Spread over two days is positive but scheduling it as 16:30 to 20:30 today then 10:30 to 14:30 (+ potential play offs) on Saturday does seem a bit odd, not to mention cruel.

It matches the schedule for the open.

Anybody know what's happened with the live games from the Knockout. Seem to have frozen in both games around moves 4-5. And are there going to be live games from the FIDE Open. At the moment, that option is greyed out on the official site.

"Anybody know what's happened with the live games from the Knockout."

I got suspicious when Nigel seemed to have taken more than a minute after 0-0, now it's 17 minutes, I assume there's a problem with the broadcast, unless the fire alarm has sounded...

I have messaged Matthew Carr & Alex Holowczak about the faulty link on the official website taking us to the Grand Tour games but I suspect that the first day brings it's fair share of challenges so some teething problems are to be expected.

Thanks Loz. I agree but hopefully it will be sorted soon.
