As some of you may know, I am a certified translator and am interested in Taxonomy and nomenclature and was even going to do a PhD on information management.

I have made this thread for questions on opening classification:

Why is the following game classified as queens gambit declined?

Because the position after white's 6th move is identical to that achieved in the QGD Semi-Tarrasch as follows:

1.d4 d5 2.c4 e6 3.Nc3 Nf6 4.Nc3 c5 5.cxd5 Nxd5 6.e3

Queens gambit declined - semi-Tarrasch.
Position at 8. Bd3 can be arrived at via English, Qgd, caro-kann, Sicilian alapin, alekhine, etc.
No need to sweat the small stuff (ECO classification) but great to work out what are typical tabiya after move 10, & later.

I will study the games as Mickey Adams played a similar opening today.

I soley play the English, but lines like this suprise me

Never liked the ECO codes, though I see the need for them.

The King's Gambit kind of loses it's magic when referred to as a C30 (which is a type of car)

But enough of that. Now we have elected to leave Europe can we please have
our chess magazines reverted back to printing moves in descriptive notation.
