First new move in Hebden v Howell was Hebden's 27 Nd2 -- thats a lot of theory they churned out. Is Hebden's move better ?

Early wackiness in Griffiths-Conquest

Summerscale and Wells also reaching for the wide pawns. Disappointing that Surtees-Rudd not being shown - didn't realise it was as long as board 30!

Fire alarm set of in building caused delay in start today. Also automatically opened vents causing torrents of rain in playing hall (hence delay). Drips continued on Greet board so it had to be moved. Sorry!!!

That reminds me how the Hastings Town Hall sprung a leak in 1953, and the rain came on the British Championship board where Gerald Abrahams was, as usual, smoking his cigars and loudly eating his oranges...

I do hope that was caught on camera.

On the other hand, I bet the room was evacuated swiftly. :)

Evidently games of chess are won not by good positions but by good roofs.

Well, he's got 7 minutes to make 18 moves, so he'd better get a move on. (Get it? Chess, move? Never mind...)
