I'm sorry but I can't follow that at all.
What were the actual moves?

If you set up the position with Black to move, there's a forced mate, despite White having two extra rooks.

Ah, thanks, Matt. I assumed Qf5+ was an instant mate. I wasn't paying attention. I also thought that the White queen arrived on b8 from somewhere else, but now I see that it was a promotion from a pawn on b7. So can White win the position before the pawn promotion and how? I presume a series of checks with the rooks before promoting at the right moment?

(EDIT: OK, just Rd6+ and promote the pawn, forcing the king away makes all the difference.)

I do remember drawing with you when you were 10 on the Richmond Terrace. It was a Richmond Junior Club event.

It appears it was actually eight moves! 'Twas a Barbican rapidplay I think.

I thought I might have actually won the game on the Terrace? Anyway I was black in a Ruy Lopez and yet, despite the result, probably barely played 1...e5 ever again in my life to date!
