Post by Andrew Martin » Sat Jul 01, 2017 1:04 pm

Welcome everyone.

Firstly, a series of three preview videos, followed by the usual Game of the Day service from Llandudno.

Thanks for the preview, Andrew. I am sure many people are looking forward to your usual excellent coverage, whether at the event or online. Excitement here will no doubt mount closer to the event!
As for embracing change, with the new format, I suspect most people are, like you, taking a let's wait and see approach. Hopefully we will not see a mass tie on 7/9.

At the end of this 3rd preview video is Andrew's announcement that this will be his final year commentating at the British, having done it first in 1988, and for the last 20 years consecutively.

To say it will not be the same again would be an understatement - you will be missed Andrew.

Why would IM Martin stop his coverage? Is he retiring from chess- god forbids?

Andrew's pronunciation of Llandudno may leave a little to be desired.
"Do you play chess?"
"Yes, but I prefer a game with a better chance of cheating."

Bradshaw and train journeys were similar to Chess and MCO.
Enjoy the air and chess.
Andrew's coverage has been excellent and so looking forward to it this year.

You must be spoiled for choice in to pick from the round 3 games, Andrew, with all the scalps claimed it was not a good day for the titled players.
Lose one queen and it is a disaster, Lose 1000 queens and it is just a statistic.

Lots of good games in Rd 3 as our friend mentioned.

My choice is Palliser v Jones:
