I'm assuming you've dropped the 'p' from computer.

The club secretary (think of the preceding word in terms of Stalin & Mao - who were party secretaries) may have a laptop that is brought to the club to do the pairings , etc. of internal rapid & blitz tournaments, etc.

The secretary will probably have a desktop PC at home for club admin. and maintaining the club website.

All of the above is usual in England these days.

Some very small clubs may dispense with computers and stick with good old pen & paper. That can be much safer because computers can suffer catastrophic failures.

I thought the table color has a psychlogical affect on players.

The seemingly random page turning on here can have a detrimental psychological effect on posters.

"I thought the table color has a psychlogical affect on players"

It could do - I recently had a tournament where someone disliked the green squares on the board as he was colour-blind. As for the table, it should really be a fairly neutral colour, so it's not distracting, and not so bright that it reflects light.

Are you asking how to make people aware that there is an intermittent chess club (hidden) in the building?

Hi Kevin,

"....someone disliked the green squares on the board as he was colour-blind. "

So to him Bishops of opposite colour will be Bishops of opposite colour only in reverse.

Hi soheil,

Advertise you are thinking of starting up a chess club.

Meet up and discuss where it should be held, what kind of tables, board and chessmen to use.

That is what the Edinburgh Chess Club did on the 4th of November 1822.

a handful of people answered the advert. They met in a hotel, chose a premises, had a
collection to pay for some chess sets and that was that. The club is still going 195 years later.

Hi Geoff, you old fakir you, how to "advertise you are thinking of starting up a chess club"?

There's word of mouth, fliers in libraries, posters on derelict fences, skywriting by day and at night laser light shows reflected from clouds, &c, &c, &c.

If this means what I think -

Soheil could try asking the owners of the building for permission to display a small billboard sign outside during club opening hours or, better still, a large banner above the entrance proclaiming -

"CHESS CLUB HOOSHDARAN, ET CETERA, ET CETERA, ET CETERA!!"

or its Farsi equivalent.

I started up or was in at the beginning of three new clubs.
(5 if I count the one I started in the Army and the Gas Board.)

it's quite easy, the hard bit is getting subs (the fees) out of them after the first year.

At Sandy Bells we never had a venue or any chess sets.
For the first two seasons we played all our games away from home.

Maybe soheil could try that for a season and if he sees a club with tables
and chairs and pieces and boards he likes then buy the same kit they have.

Wow, I seem to have had a typo in my question. It should have been thus:
How will the buildings of those clubs be used whose members only meet a few hours during a week?
I mean, say, a club meets only 3 days a week & 11 hours in all. How would it be used at other time?

How do demonstration boards compare with video projectors?

Well, that depends upon the whims of the owner of the building. (Typically, in the UK, the question would be asked the other way round: "what buildings can we find that will be suitable for our needs and yet otherwise empty when we want to be playing chess?".)

Won't you need contact details, location of the club, opening times etc?
