If previous British Championships had been played over 9 rounds...

Purely for fun, I have compiled a list of results for previous British Championships had the format been what it is in 2017, namely a nine-round Swiss.

http://www.saund.co.uk/britbase/britcha ... tical.html

I have worked out who was in the leading score group after nine rounds for each of the years from 1949 (when the format changed from 12-player all-play-all to 11-round Swiss) up to and including 2016.

Apologies in advance for any errors I have introduced into the table, which has not been proof-read. Not to be taken too seriously but, hopefully, of some interest.

Are 1954 and 2014 the only shared titles (i.e. titles not broken by a tie-break)?

No, there was a third - 1997. My mistake, I put the open bracket in the wrong place. Adams and Sadler shared after a tie-break that whittled the winners down from four to two. Now corrected.
