Hi.

I remember reading teaching chess wrongly can be detrimental to the student's character, and as I remember, IM Martin have said this in Fide TRG syllabus. I would be grateful if someone, or even better he himself, explains to me the correct way to teach chess.

Encourage enjoyment and personal development, not results.

There is a book with almost this exact title - The Right Way to Teach Chess to Kids - by acclaimed author Richard James. It costs a whopping £2.99 on kindle via amazon. I would suggest anybody with an interest in teaching chess - to children certainly and probably anybody else too) should read it.

My contribution would simply be to emphasise that to be an effective teacher you have to connect with your student(s) on a personal level first and foremost. The chess stuff is secondary. Possibly that’s just re-stating what Andrew Martin said in different words.
