Lomonosov 7-piece query

Post by David Robertson » Thu Feb 08, 2018 4:57 pm

If anyone has ready access to the Lomonosov 7-piece tablebase, I'd appreciate help with the following position:

White Kd3, Nf3, b3
Black Kd5, Bc5, b5, f4

Either to move (I doubt it's material)

The position arose last night in a league game when, after extensive efforts to make progress, Black offered the draw. But is it ever winnable for B? I'm not sure, though I suspect it's drawn. Houdini 4 isn't a great deal of help. So over to Lomonosov

Draw. White to play can even play 1.b4 and if Bxb4 2.Nd4

Thanks indeed.

I wouldn't worry too much about 1. b4 since the B (c5) could be pretty much anywhere. In fact the game ended with a repetition: 1...Bf2; 2 Ke2 Be3; 3 Kd3

And I was White v. one of my club's highly promising 15 year olds. We'll use the Lomonosov verdict to save some time when coaching tomorrow night

Yeah. But I don't have. I checked the website; signed up; but no PC access. I think I've got Lomonosov on disk somewhere, but have been too bone-idle to load it. As per usual

I've got the app on my PC via the free Bluestacks Android Emulator. Works great.

Not at 100TB you haven't. That's over 23,000 DVDs.
