I'd definitely expect to be able to claim a walk over win under those circumstances myself.

Some captains have mistakenly interpreted this as their opponents having defaulted the match.
When the home team unilaterally cancels a match with the travelling team still keen to go, that does seem understandable.
Cancellation due to adverse weather is concerned with the safety of individuals.
As SCCU County Match Controller I have no reason to dispute their cancellation of any of today's matches.

That sounds entirely sensible, we all want to play chess after all. As for claiming matches by default, I fail to see the point. As a player I want to play, and qualifying for the ECF stages as a result of winning a match by default has no appeal.

Isn't that judgement up to the teams to decide for themselves, rather than the SCCU County Match Controller? In the MCCU, the county matches that were cancelled were cancelled by mutual agreement.

Well, if there's a dispute then someone has to stand in.

The point with claiming a rearrangement is that a fair few players have to juggle their weekends months in advance to fit big chess matches in. Rearrange things totally and they really, really don't like you!

I'm impressed at how speedily SCCU captains are managing to reschedule their matches that were weather affected.

I should be in a position to confirm SCCU nominations for the ECF competition shortly after receiving results of matches that will be played on the 24th March.

There does remain uncertainty, however, over the dates of the ECF County Championships since they are not yet available on the ECF website:

Only by people who haven't read the rules, or are trying to cause a kerfuffle. The rules are on the previous year's page, and they haven't changed.

Of course, if there were a Controller, things might appear on that page already.

Let's hope neither Somerset nor Gloucestershire ends up in the preliminary round, then, because that's when we've rescheduled our match for.

I made it to Bury for that match; it was still quite deep in parts, but nothing in Bury; 3Cs cancelled a match on Wednesday because of snow; it was nearly a foot deep so a wise decision

It'll be a really good result if Yorkshire do win it with our top boards out.

Apparently Jeff was board 1 50 years ago as well as today.
