Yes, I was there and saw that game. Callum was fantastic. There were several dodgy results for titled players...

Callum Kilpatrick ... another one for the 'they grow up so fast ... he was playing me only a few years ago' file.

And yes - I got stuffed.

I did beat Luke McShane's dad once though.

Sorry missed you Paul- would like to have met you - will you be coming again? Funny thing about the forum is that you become familiar with the names, but you can't necassarily put names to faces.

A cursory glance shows that had he not won this game he would have been losing rating points in the tournament overall. I think the saying is: "Many a false word said in jest"

Richard,
You will notice that Callum current rating performance is 2286 and using the inverse of current FIDE conversion i.e

{sqrt (2286-600) +10} cubed
divided by 578

We find that this comes this performance comes out remarkable close to his present grade at 230.3

Of course, as you will know this is slightly misleading because in terms of ECF grading the 2493 that Callum beat will counts as ungraded for next season's calculation.

I don't think thats right Matthew, is it? Magesh will play 9 games in this event, so he will get a full ECF grade at the end of this season and that's what will be used in calculating Callums grade.

It will be interesting to see what the ECF grading performance of all the juniors in the event is, relative to their new ECF grades. I shall post this sometime on Monday.

I predict some wide variances!

Sean,
That is exactly what would happen for an ungraded player? so basically in terms of ECF grading the fact that Magesh is rated at 2493 counts for nothing.

I see! Yes, it that respect you're right. In fact that's the same for any FIDE rated player. Their actual rating is totally irrelevant.

Congratulations to Peter Poobalasingam whose performance at the Uxbridge International has taken his rating over 2300 and with it the right to the FM title!
