Chess Results Server
Is there any way to stop the adverts popping up especially with Women.
It is hardly good to say I'm following the results in today's British Chess Championship.
Not really helpful in promoting chess to women either.

The adverts on this site (as many others) are targetted on what Google analytics thinks may tempt you based on your previous browsing history. (Currently I tend to get airlines and hotels.)
You should be able to turn on or off making ads relevant to you within the site's settings.

Re: Chess Results Server
Most browsers have add-ons which do something called ad blocking.
In the early days (about 25 years ago when having an ad appear on a web page could mean it taking 30 minutes to render instead of 20) we did this by hand. We found out the urls of the ad source and edited the "hosts" file in the "C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\" folder. We added a line per url assigning them to "localhost". Note that this file still exists today in its original location and you can if you want use the same technique.
However it is much more efficient to google "ad block" for your browser and then download and install the ad blocker.
Ah, but I was so much older then. I'm younger than that now.

As I have mentioned before Ublock Origin by I believe Gorhill is the add on you want.

Re: Chess Results Server
I don't find the ads on chess-results obtrusive. Currently I am getting them about hotels in Bled where I'll be going in November.
The adverts and click-through come-ons on espn cricinfo are much more annoying,

I hadn't even noticed there were ads on chess-results.com.
"Do you play chess?"
"Yes, but I prefer a game with a better chance of cheating."

Quite. It was only this thread that drew their very discreet offerings to my attention.JustinHorton wrote: ↑Thu Aug 02, 2018 9:59 pmI hadn't even noticed there were ads on chess-results.com.

Thanks all = ads OK atm.
I'll let my better half know. She may even let me go out to play chess this season.
