I'm capable of losing on time for all sorts of reasons. With or without increments & Gavin Hughes is nowhere near my accumulated losses over the past 5 years.
I think the rules are confusing enough and then having to explain them to players when no arbiter present matches.
It will be good for a refresher from our experts in time for the county season.

I've done it again! Ths time at the Stevenage Congress, against Roger de C. Again, the reason was I couldn't decide what move to play. There mjust be training you can do to make losing like this less likely. Perhaps I need to play in some Rapidplay tournaments.

When down to increment first find a safe move and if you find nothing better or can't calculate a more complex line, play it at 10 secs remaining.

This was a very double-edged position, so not so easy to find a safe move.

This was the position. Black had just spent over 5 minutes on .. d4-d3 without being totally sure that it prevented the pawn on a7 from queening and assuming it did so, whether the resulting position was drawn or winning.Phil Neatherway wrote: ↑Sat Apr 27, 2019 9:52 amThis was a very double-edged position, so not so easy to find a safe move.

I couldn't decide between Nxd3 and Na6.

Re: Losing on time when there is an increment
1.Na6 Nd5+ 2.Kb5 Kb7 looks hopeless for white, so I think I'd go for 1.Nxd3 and hope.
