Applying for Chess Sets
The following announcement has just gone up on the ECF webpage
"Please note - all applications for this project must reach us by 31st July 2009 - thanks to those who have already applied, and we look forward to any outstanding applications"
I am not sure exactly what this means, how should you apply? The information is posted by Andrew Walker, who is also a new name to me
The Holloid website has this announcement
"To receive your FREE chess sets, all your school has to do is apply via this email address: [email protected]"
I suggest new schools should apply to Holloid, the ECF, their MP, Peter Wilson, Chris Majer and anyone else they can think of, remembering of course to keep threir fingers crossed at all times.

Andrew is the replacement for Sophie Hare and whose official role is "Database Manager" but actually manages the main ECF web site via the Joomla CMS.
We chatted extensively yesterday regarding the ECF shop, the CoM application and other stuff. Despite no knowledge of Joomla he was very helpful and keen to learn. The office is attempting to put in place some kind of SLA for Joomla with a support contract.

JS has been used to obfuscate the alias : good practise to avoid the alias being screen scraped into a spammers database.

Another update,
"Please will any school who has already applied but has not received a correspondence update form to check and return please call Kirstie between 9.00am and 4.45pm Monday to Friday on 01424 775222 - thank you!"
Not sure how many schools will see this?
