After I enter all my details, it says my email address and name is already taken.

That looks to me like the screen for registering new people, not renewing existing people.
I had a similar problem when trying to rejoin after allowing my membership to lapse. I was informed that my name and email were already linked so the system would not let me progress. I got over this by including my middle name for the first time and that worked; not keen on expanding my name every time, though!

I have never had an email reminder about renewing my membership.

I'm being invited to pay £14 for one year or £44 for three years. That's not a very attractive "discount".

It was the logic of one of the handful of people who hold most of the votes at the ECF's voting meetings that the on line membership was £ X - £ 1. Therefore the three year on line membership was £ 3 X - £ 1.

Is there an online membership list where it is possible to check when my membership expires?

John Philpott's post is from yesterday, a little ahead your question.

So if I renew online three times in three years, will I get three discounts?

Yes, but you need to be aware that the ECF wants more money, therefore it's intending to put the price up every year.

Never mind all this newfangled stuff, does anybody know if you can pay by cheque?
"Do you play chess?"

Yes, look here: http://www.englishchess.org.uk/membersh ... embership/

I had to use the search facility to find this. All the links on the ECF home page send you to the online pay site.

If you click on the "Membership" button on the menu at the top of the ECF home page, the fourth option down leads to the Postal/Telephone membership page.

Thanks to both. I'm assuming payable to English Chess Federation.
