I fear that the answer to both questions is no. I did suggest a couple of people last year. Both of them declined.

The list of the candidates for the elections has now appeared on the ECF website at http://www.englishchess.org.uk/wp-conte ... 11-AGM.pdf. Tim Woolgar is the sole candidate for Marketing Director, but there are two candidates for Junior Director: Phil Ehr and Sabrina Chevannes. The other eight incumbent Directors are standing for re-election unopposed, but there is no candidate for the post of Chairman of the Finance Committee which has been vacant since last year's AGM.

Remind me, do we get some form of Candidate Statement/Manifesto? Will the Junior Director candidates attend the AGM and be allowed to explain why they should get the job, and will there be some form of hustings to allow us to question them?

As an aside, if we have 2 good people, can we find roles within the ECF junior set up for both of them?

All candidates (whether new or incumbents) have the right to have an election address not exceeding one side of A4 published on the website. Where there is a contested election, normal procedure would be for the candidates to be invited to the AGM and for each candidate to have the opportunity to address the meeting and answer questions, after which Council would debate their respective merits before proceeding to a vote.

Can I check who specifically receives a vote at the agm? I know that both the Bristol League and Somerset CCA receive votes, but does the Frome Congress/ Yeovil Congress/ any of the Bristol congresses have seperate votes?

I think it's the same for the October meeting, but I might be wrong.

The usual rule of thumb is that Congresses might have an independent vote, it depends whether they register themselves directly with the ECF or indirectly through a local league or county association. Votes are indirectly proportional to the number of games played so the addition of a local Congress might give a league or county an extra vote.

A fresh voting register is published for each meeting, and should appear on the website at the same time as the agenda is issued. April's register included Frome but not Yeovil.

This is quite incredible. My bet raised with Ladbrokes that there would be no contested elections until 2020 has been lost; I now only have that Martians will land at the 2012 Olympics and that Mansfield Town will win four successive promotions, followed by winning the Premier Division in 2016 and the Champions League in 2017 left. Incidentally the longest odds quoted were for an ECF contested election.

Not that it matters, but I assume that the London Chess Classic nomination is decided by Malcolm, who (if that is so) seems to be supporting a candidate for Junior Director against Sabrina? Actually perhaps the best thing all round would be for Sabrina to stand for Marketing instead ...
