There's a minimum number of directors, but relatively low. After the walk out of 2008, the limit was near to being tested but not breached. If it did go below the minimum, presumably there would be an EGM to elect some more or close down the Company.Paul Cooksey wrote: My understanding is that the President has no seniority over other board members, who as a collective are free to either appoint a CEO or take on the responsibilities of the role amongst themselves as they see fit. I think the same is true for other unfilled directorates. I don't think the absence of a President makes any substantive difference

Adam,
If you are disputing that you acted in bad faith by first agreeing to a meeting then pulling out of such then please explain. I am sure that you want to move on but I think that you must understand my position in that I will be reluctant to vote for or work with someone who has acted in such 'apparent' bad faith.
If the cancellation of the meeting was on The President's request (he proved that he did not wish to speak to me in Istanbul) then you can now say so in 'good faith' to the ECF members.
I too wish to move on but saying 'what's done is done' does not give me assurance that it will not happen again - either to me or another volunteer of the ECF.
I agree that Alex, at times, went too far in his 'crusade' but he was only looking for the truth; as our wish for a face to face meeting proved, I think.

Re: ECF Director elections for 2012/13
I repeat my point about the Marketing and Membership Director post
the person who is responsible for all this needs to have a proven track record in making sure awards such as The Grand Prix are given out at the right time, the Player of the year award is awarded and needs to be able to communicate with the members of their 'team' without sarcasm, insult and 'points scoring'. They need to get the sponsors of one event to attend or send representation to the previous one to publicise it. They need to be honest about the role they have, publicise the ECF events they are responsible for rather than concentrating on their own local events. They need to be able to admit when they have taken on more than they can handle and not delegate everything to someone else. They need to be competent in the fields they claim to be qualified.
Anyone taking this on needs to be able to prove excellence in previous roles - this is a very important post.

Real live does not work like that Adam we have to take responsability for our actions. You can not just sweep them under the carpet when it suits yourself.
I am speaking here for myself and not the NCCU which i am now president of

Who is this John Philpot? Not the sort of thing I generally reply to, since there is usually John Philpot lurking in the background with answers to constitutional questions. But since West Ham are the early kick off...

Re: ECF Director elections for 2012/13
I noticed this on the ECF webpage
"With the completion of his duties in respect of the Chess Olympiad, Lawrence Cooper advised the Board that he was stepping down from the role of Director of International Chess with immediate effect.
The Board wishes to express its sincere thanks to Lawrence for his hard work during his years as Director of International Chess. His efforts have been widely appreciated by players and chess enthusiasts throughout English chess, and he will be greatly missed. Lawrence will be continuing in his role as International Rating Officer.
For the remaining month until the ECF Annual General Meeting in October, Sean Hewitt has been appointed as Director of International Chess, following a Board vote."
It seems a little strange that Lawrence (and CJ for that matter) have chosen to resign rather than just not seeking re-election. Now the Olympiad and the World Junior is out of the way is there anything for the International Director to do over the next month?

In the capacity of International Director, probably very little. In the capacity of a Director of the ECF per se, probably a bit more.Matthew Turner wrote:It seems a little strange that Lawrence (and CJ for that matter) have chosen to resign rather than just not seeking re-election. The only event to keep an eye on is the European Club Cup where we have two teams playing. I have my reasons for resigning as soon as was practical (after the Olympiad) which the board are aware of.Matthew Turner wrote:I noticed this on the ECF webpage

I deliberately decided to use those words to see what the forum reaction was (given the conversation about management speak). I'm glad it had the desired effect.Jonathan Rogers wrote:And we see the dreaded phrase "going forwards"

If going forwards means cutting back, as in shortening the event to 9 or 10 days, the 101st already has a two week time slot.Jonathan Rogers wrote:And we see the dreaded phrase "going forwards"

The 101st British is the 2014 event that clashes with the Tromso Olympiad - has anything been agreed about that and if so, what?
Any postings on here represent my personal views

Re: ECF Director elections for 2012/13
I gather the Board decided to pencil in the two weeks immediately before Tromso, but overlapping for a couple of days at the end. This wouldn't preclude evicting the British from its normal Monday to Saturday, Monday to Friday slots if there was a desire to allow players to take part in both events. If you move any earlier, you go outside the school holidays. If it follows Tromso, Scottish school holidays become an issue.Mick Norris wrote:The 101st British is the 2014 event that clashes with the Tromso Olympiad - has anything been agreed about that and if so, what?
