I just don't understand David Howell. He has taken at least 20 minutes on this move. Surely it is reasonably obvious what his plans are?

For example, 41...Qb6 shouldn't be too hard to spot. It is unclear what White can respond to this.

You shouldn't try to understand really compulsive time trouble addicts. Its just how they are. Doesn't stop them playing very good chess.

Got back about an hour ago - hard to believe that I was up Constitution Hill at midday. I must admit I was a bit disappointed with one and a half from five in the Soanes but all of my games featured some fighting chess and I didn't drop any out and out clangers. I may even have made my live board debut.

I'm pleased to have been part of it.

There were similar comments about a fire alarm at the English Rapidplay Championships in March and I responded as follows:
