I've just been on the De Mooi website. I won't comment on some of the pictures.

However, the website claims that he will be in rehearsals at the time of the Council meeting. Will any Board member confirm his non attendance?

Interestingly the rehearsals are being held at Branston. That won't get either him or the ECF out of the pickle they are in.

The name of the play that he is getting ready for is Guilty Pleasures. You can't make that sort of stuff up. It is described as a laugh out loud comedy play.

More details may be found here: http://www.theatre-productions.com/show ... pleasures/

The July production in Camberley could be one for my chess club. I will suggest that to our committee.

What Alex says above reminds me, among other things, I must get some pickle.
I could only go as far as following CJ on twitter for a very short time and never 'mustard' enough courage to visit his website.
Very interesting that CJ is following the Stanislavski method and "living the part" both on and off stage.

It's using live data which is expressed to the pound (penny?), but displaying it in £ 000s. You always get these errors unless you put lots of Round( ) in formulae or equivalent methods.

(edit) As pointed out, there's also the odd formula error which affects the bottom line projected outrun.
We've all made these errors in spreadsheets, but it's best to check for them in published documents. (/edit)

For example cell J39 should be sum(J24:J38) not sum(J25:J37)

It might be the right time to say that a benefit of charitable status, overlooked or not mentioned by the ECF Charity Committee, ( I know they have a judge, a lawyer and a former head of the Charity Commission in their midst) is that complications with VAT will be much reduced, as in most cases it disappears.

The rules for charities and VAT are as clear as mud. Try making sense of
http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/charities/vat/index.htm
http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/charities/vat/income.htm
and
http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/charities/vat/income.htm#9

With the British Championship and International expenses removed from the ECF, the main benefit of the ECF to members will be an office that collects money to pay for itself, governance of the ECF and other administrative functions. Grading, as we know, requires marginal direct use of the Office facilities.

Would payments by members to the ECF incur VAT under those conditions? The example of a theatre club isn't greatly helpful.

I comment, à propos nothing in particular, that the local newspaper reports that Mr De Mooi will run in Sunday's Hastings half-marathon

Rgarding the accounts for the BritishChampionships 2011, I still await Andrew Farthing getting in touch with me to clarify the situation (as is Lara).

Following some emails over the last few days I believe that the above accounts have still to be finalised but, on a much more positive note, I now believe that the ECF are actually doing something about trying to get the figures together in time for the Council Meeting.
I don't think that it is now any secret that the reluctance of the ECF President to provide adequate documentation has been a major factor in this delay. I also am confident that the figures will show a much better financial situation than has been initially reported.

As the Board approved that a profit could be carried forward to the 2012 event it would have made life much simpler for Lara if she had known if additional money had been available. Can there now be any doubt that the President's actions have adversely affected the forthcoming Championships? I strongly feel that he should be issuing a public apology for the accounting problems and resultant difficulties that he has caused.

While not wishing to relieve our President of the his responsibility for his actions, he had a clear track record of incompetence in this area long before Sheffield. Handing him the keys to the shop was unwise to say the least.

In case clarification is needed, Jonathan's keys were not handed out by the Co-Managers. Concerns were expressed from an early time and we were under the impression until very late on that any money raised was going through De Mooi. We were concerned when the sponsorship money went into the ECF account. We were horrified when it 'disappeared' again.

Perhaps the Home Director, who was singing De Mooi's praises, should make a comment on his current position. The 2012 British HAS been adversely affected and a statement from Mr Raoof would not be out of place in the absence of a statement from the President.
