Rocco Vs Wadsworth
Which has indeed been played very well by White so far. The other tip on these pages for the u21 title is also struggling, if less seriously.

Williams v Merriman has also been lively and Richard Pert accepted a draw offer before his position got too bad. Generally the first round has been better than in the past and SF on chessbomb pointed out that Jack could have had Adams in a spot of bother after f5!, if folllowed up correctly.

Charlie Storey has run over GM Stephen Gordon in 30 moves. I noticed U13 Jacob Yoon is giving Malcolm Pein fits, and has pushed him into surviving on increment.

Villiers-Fernandez. Black's 52nd move is hardly that of a GM. 52.. Kc5 simply gives White the tempo he needs. One case where taking the opposition doesn't work!

In boxing terms Charlie would be classed as a dangerman. He beat a couple of GM’s in the last tournament he played in too. Think he’s quite hard to pin down as to what opening he will go for on any given day either. I think there’s plenty of higher rated players who might not like that pairing.

I thought it only right and proper to start this thread, and steer us away from euro leaving talk to the real business of the year.
Lose one queen and it is a disaster, Lose 1000 queens and it is just a statistic.

If anyone else would like me to tip their opponent, I am willing to do so for a very reasonable fee...

Any rumours for where it will be next year?

I think Cumbria is perhaps more in the picture for 2021 maybe when a large hotel complex will be completed on the Rheged site, fingers crossed!

I find it very difficult to believe that Graham Moore played 69.. Kh5 allowing mate in two in a drawn rook ending.

Mental fatigue strikes in Nicholas Pert v Graham Moore with 69.....Kh5 ??? on the verge of a draw. I have to feel sorry for the latter - we've all been there, particularly after defending for ages against a GM.

Great result for Tom Villiers - Tom has an uncanny ability to induce blunders from strong opponents and it happened again today with Daniel Fernandez's 52...Kc5 ??

One move tragedy in Jaufarally v Derakhshani too, and Freddie Hand's final move is the most baffling of all.

Nice thought, but there is already a thread under 'ECF Matters'.

Yoon drew. He has just come from scoring 5/5 for England earlier this week in the Robinson Cup (U14 adjunct to the Glorney Cup).
