Well no, since they have the title they only need three, but It is hardly unrealistic for a 2400-2500 strength player to win a tournament is it so I'm going to say that they do frequently perform high enough to get more norms.

Surprised Richard only has one though, I guess all those years of letting the scrubs into the British pulled his performance rating down when he was scoring well.

But most tournaments that 2400-2550s win are still not GM norms, for want of titled opposition or maybe because 2560 performances do the job.

Ask Keith how many Gm norms he has, even after he made the title in the early 90s!

could Andrew Smith win again? maybe too early to call it, the game v Eggleston so far has been a bloodbath of red moves according to SF

Houska higher-rated by ninety points. Maybe the idea was that when the king goes to h8 it blocks the rook on the file, which it does, albeit

(a) it's attacking the queen on b8, so whatever
(b) White can't take the g4 knight anyway.

Looks like Chris Ward also blundered and lost from an equal position against WGM Toma Katarzyna, who beat Sarah Longson yesterday.

What a curious blunder. You can just imagine playing that check without a second thought.

17...0-0-0 was played in a 4NCL game between Ian Thompson and Malcolm Pein in 2013. Jovanka's improvement looks scary but 21 Qd3 is allegedly okay for white.

It just might be premature to talk about it, but if he does it, I think he would be British Champion - I think if you are eligible to play in it, you are eligible to win it. Open to correction, bien sur.

Let's be realistic. It is likely to be Adams or Howell and a pairing in round six, than five or seven.
