Hi all.
It is a real shame the sponsorship has been lost. In addition to this the rules for qualifying for lowers players has been made harder. This means there are very few 2200 to 2300 in the field. They like myself cannot commit to the amount of weekend tournaments required to be in the Grand Prix qualification etc etc.The vast amount of players in this grade range play 4ncl which does not count for Brit champs qualification. As Matt mentions be as a 2100 having to pay £275 is also not something I would consider. It is just to much.
If there were more 2200 to 2300 then there would me more entry fee funds to help with Gm costs and more willing to play when they see more gms in the field.

Yes, it's ironic that last year lower-rated qualifiers were excluded from rating prizes, thus ensuring that at least some of them would show no further interest in the event. Now the higher-rated players are obviously discouraged as well!

The deadline for late entry fees has been moved from 1st to 30th June.
There are now 3 GM entries to the Championship.

For many years the early entry fee deadline for the Championships was late in June. This year we decided to move this to 1st June 2019. However, we recognise that we should have communicated this change more effectively and have therefore decided to extend the early entry deadline until 30th June 2019, which brings the deadline back in line with previous years’ championships. Our apologies to all concerned.
Any player who has not yet entered the Championships has the opportunity to enter at the lower entry fee until this date. After this date the higher entry fee will apply without exception.
Please note that the deadlines for early entry fees for both the weekend events and the Rapidplay remain as on the entry form and website (14th July)

I presume that FIDE has the date of birth wrong, but otherwise there's a ringer in the Over 65 s

I'm guessing this is the Danny Wright who won the Hastings Challengers of December 1967 - January 1968, played in the Student Olympiad team of that era and was a regular tournament winner over the next ten years or so.

I have seen that error mentioned before, possibly here. If Danny were to play in a FIDE Senior event, then the ECF would of course be expected to correct it, otherwise they probably see no need.

If it's wrong, it's also wrong in the ECF grading database, with a precise date in 1961 recorded. The ECF might want to correct that.

Is this going to be the lowest entry since the 70s. something wrong in lack of sponsorship and lack of conditions for titled players. torquay has been expensive for years.

Possibly in the British Championship itself. Numbers are plentiful in the numerous other sections.

It already isn't; it has more entries than Douglas 2005, for starters.

Unlikely as the long tail of players under 2100 in previous Championships has been eliminated. Given that they used to help pay for it, you wonder about the financial viability, but perhaps entry fees for the other events have been increased to defray the absence of sponsorship.

the fees are expensive, with lack of top players it does not even seem worth watching, the likely average age overall, the percentage of females too.
seems very male dominated with focus on a Victorian seaside jolly. hopefully nobody ends up in fawlty towers.

Though in itself hardly likely to get numbers up to desired levels, expect a flurry of GM entrants at some point. I'm going to confidently guess 10, with 9 being my hedge
