When Lorin was defaulted, does Charlie get the rating points. Just a thought.
Yes, because the game had started.

The suggestion made in previous posts was that the arbiters would only enforce the rule if asked to do so and would turn a blind eye otherwise. That's a very different situation from not enforcing the rules because you weren't aware an infringement had occurred.
I don't see where anyone has said that. What have I missed?
Lorin D'Costa - "[The arbiters] said it was the rules, however they kept dithering on this for quite some time as if they felt bad to make it, and I eventually asked if they could make a final decision as this was dragging on."

Jonathan Rogers - "I exclude the possibility that the arbiters chose to approach him on their own initiative, not being obliged to do so, since they were apparently not interested in looking at the contents of the phone and so did not actually suspect him of "real" cheating."

The difference in performance ratings between the players paired on board three caught my eye.

There is a difference between breaking the rules and cheating.

Have the rules been broken? Yes. Is loss of the game a reasonable penalty? Absolutely.

I don't know all the details of this case, but to attack someone's reputation (as alleged) is beyond the pale. There is no evidence of cheating or intention to cheat. Was Lorin playing like Karpov, or has he ever?

Really, nonsense like this is enough to make amateurs like me consider giving up serious chess for good, before we become the victim of smears ourselves...

Indeed

Also who won the boxing match last night and which match up would you like to see next?

Hilton vs Bullock would be good 😂😂😂😂

Who steals my purse steals trash; 'tis something, nothing;
Twas mine, 'tis his, and has been slave to thousands;
But he that filches from me my good name
Robs me of that which not enriches him,
And makes me poor indeed.

The chessboxing match was a draw. It looks like Kim had the edge in the boxing and Taylor in the chess.

I know what you mean, but there is a simple solution. Just don't wander around the venue with a comms device on your person. It isn't as though there aren't constant reminders, although in England perhaps even more are needed.

Big gaps on 2 and 4 too, but yes more noticeable when the players have the same points total

Sure, but it's not like Charlie Storey's word is hard currency in the chess world, is it?

Wackiness in Fernández - Palliser. (Incidentally I believe I'm right in thinking Richard's played both the Big Two, so a win for him today could be interesting.)

White's opening looks even worse than the sort of rubbish I play. Stockfish has White virtually losing by move four :shock:

btw is Richard on for a GM norm does anyone know?

Not much to say about the Adams game. OUCH.

With White he has been imperious. With Black, not so impressive.
