JAMES PRATT >Ritson Morry who ushered in a certain ND Short at Brighton 1980. (If there was commentary before that I'd welcome guidance, can't remember any ..

When I learnt about the magnificent new venue for the British in Brighton 1980, I recommended live commentary be introduced. Ritson was chosen. When I took over as director in 1981, Jonathan Tisdall then US was the commentator in Morecambe.

Charlie Storey did a good job laat year.
I did not notice any publicity this year for the fact that there is no main business sponsor for the British Championships.

It appears that there will be commentary this year:

It's not clear if this will be the on-site commentary as well.

According to
viewtopic.php?f=25&t=10295
It will be Adam Hunt and Danny Gormally at the venue with a live feed to the outside world. They are using Simon Williams' established channel, so hopefully the gremlins that marred the commentary at Warwick 2015 won't be present.

Tell me about the gremlins so I can think about them. We will obviously be reliant on a good internet connection.

Documented in this forum.

etc.

(The last one is the most specialist, as the others are just comments from time to time on difficulties following the action)

At least some of the problems were down to unreliable relays from the live boards, but the coverage of the "talking heads" was relying on webcams, rather than the more sophisticated equipment you might see at the London Classic.

Looking at the current entrants wouldn't this be a good year for Danny to win it rather than commentating on it?

Ahead of Adams and Howell?

Adam, discuss the problems with live commentary transmission with Chris Ward who does it at Hastings.
There are problems there as well.

Nick, you must have more up to date information than the ECF website.

Fourth hand information, but I am referring to

According to Malcolm in the July issue of Chess

While sponsorship is unfortunately lacking this year, I'm pleased that Michael Adams and David Howell will be playing at Torquay, as well as a smattering of some of our other leading players.
Afterthought - I suppose that could mean one of the weekend events.
