I'm happy to express my gratitude in advance, particular as I suspect most forum posters couldn't care less.
You don't have the slightest idea what "most forum posters" think.

Andrew Z always fights the ECF's corner and hence regards forumites as ungrateful malcontents - always complaining about the way the ECF, its associated bodies and individual supporters, act and speak, as Justin just did about Andrew...

The world would be a duller place if we were all as pure of heart as St Andrew the Pious.

Apologies if I've missed an explanation here or on the ECF website but what is the age restriction for the "Seniors Rated" event from 27th to 31st July?

I doubt they've defined what it is. The announcement suggests that second week adult events were still to be finalised. Presumably it would still follow FIDE cutoffs, so either a single Over 50 event, a single Over 65 event, or two in parallel as in the events for the Senior Championship.

I would expect that too, but there is no particular reason to do so. If there is only one event, some intermediate age is likely to work better.

In any case, it is not obvious that cutoffs for international events are necessarily ideal for all individual federations. In England, perhaps an over 70 event might prove popular.

Fair enough. I withdraw `most` and replace with `some`.

I cannot see why ECF will want to run twin Over 50, Over 65 events at the 2020 British Championship.

A few years back (when the 2 week congress was standard) the ECF ran graded sections for seniors (U130 and U150 I think). There were enough entrants to make the competitions viable but after I became the (joint) British U130 Senior Champion in Aberystwyth in 2014 the events were abandoned. Perhaps I will have to defend my title in Torquay next year>?

That would also be a possibility for the second week events. There's already a series of grade restricted tournaments planned for the second week. For that matter the same is true of the first week, so seniors of lower grades wouldn't have to take on the ageing sharks in the O65 and O50 Championships.

Hopefully not. It seems daft to me to have a British Championship for a restricted group of players where the eligibility criterion is that their standard of play is below some level. Could you imagine golf having a British Over 25 Handicap golf champion?

When I was in charge, I deliberately set out the stall that the "British Championship" events were the Championship, Seniors and Juniors. Those were the events in which you couldn't request byes, and in which the "British" eligibility rules applied. Some people still referred to the event as the British Under 140 Championship regardless, but that's very much up to them - we didn't use the word "Championship" on the entry form in relation to those events.

Rightly or wrongly, the ECF ran grading limited British Championships for 15 years or so until Alex came along. I have only just learnt that Alex abolished them.

It also determined eligibility by reference to ECF grades. It looks as though that practice is going to be reinstated, which I expect to be a very popular development.

The same argument can be applied to county championships.

I've privately made what to me seemed the rather obvious point that they may not exist in their current style by the time we get around to the 2020 British...
