Does anyone know when we would expect to see the December ECF Board minutes published based on past experience?

I am expecting them to be at least partially redacted again. But still, I am interested in whatever will be published.

I believe they try to follow a rule which agrees the redacted minutes of the previous Board meeting at the current meeting and then publishes them. That can lead to a delay of months in publication as they don't hold Board meetings every month. Particularly for meetings around the time of Council meetings, this gives an opportunity for decisions to be taken which will escape scrutiny by Council.

It's not unusual for the minutes of meetings, of whatever type, to be edited before wider publication. That will no doubt disappoint the conspiracy theorists - not, of course, that I would for one moment suggest that there are any such in our midst - but it means that confidential matters can freely be discussed. If, and this is just a random example, a committee had frankly discussed an offer of funding from a particular source which some members considered dubious, that's probably not a discussion it would want in the public domain. Thoughts on cheating might also be better kept off the record - one need only look at this forum to see names being bandied around without obvious regard to whether they are guilty or not.

Actually, I have no issue at all with redacting, particularly if it is temporary.

I mentioned it because I think the big thing going on at the moment relates to the Development Officer appointment/ resignation, which I expect probably will be redacted. But I'm interested in the less controversial stuff too, which is why I asked.

The ECF appears to be running out of money again

The British Championship had made a higher than expected loss of £9.5k. Overall the ECF had made a loss of £67k compared with a forecast loss of £50k.

Adding to the expenditure would be Women's chess and the costs of rebuilding grading for monthly updates.

One idea would be to relax the strict qualifying conditions to allow weaker players to subsidise the stronger players.
