So what are the bets as to who will win the trophy tomorrow?
Definitely de Coverly

(Good luck Roger)

I would guess the liliest results of boards 1 & 2 are draws, but that Ledger is more likely to win than Pert, so would make him a narrow favourite.

Svetlana has 3 WIM norms already. Only what she needed was 2200 rating, and it's happened today.

65+ - And Roger is in a rather strong position after beating my old team-mate Brian...
Very nice game it was too

Most likely to be Nick Pert or Andrew Ledger, but Marcus Harvey can still win it as well (and maybe Mark Hebden depending on tie-breaks?).

When was the last time a non-GM won the British?
Is Marcus Harvey (showing as an FM) one of the recently minted IMs?
What are the tie-breaks being used?

Jonathan Hawkins was joint winner as an IM in 2014.

If there is a tie for first place, there is a playoff.

Perhaps this should be in the Pedant's thread but Jack is not totally accurate in his assessment of the situation. She needs to do more than turn up. She has to make a move (indeed both players do) ie the minimum requirements for a game have to take place.
I think you are all wrong. She has all her norms already, and achieved the rating requirement by drawing with me in round 8

Michael Hennigan tied in 1993 and won the play off against Dharsan Kumuran.

I will take this chance to say: nice game, Roger.

I always enjoy your (multitudinous) posts; good to see that you also know where the pieces belong!

Congratulations to Svetlana. I only saw one norm on the FIDE site so hadn't realised she had two additional ones.

I think it is already safe to congratulate Roger on his fine performance in the over-65. Well done!

Yes, congratulations Roger, on at least 1st=.
Those of us who come from the same neck of the woods as Roger have been well aware of his abilities to grind out a result for a long time! I would go so far as to say that his playing style is as persistent as his posting style.

Board 2 was a draw so Roger is the 2021 British Over 65s Champion. Pretty good going having been seeded only 15th of the 21 players at the start. Must have been channelling his inner Emma Raducanu! Well done.
