Ledger beats Hebden in round 5 to lead with 4 points

Pert, Gormally, Harvey, Hebden, Eggleston and Olsen half a point behind

McPhillips, Arkell & Sucikova a further half point back
Yes, a good game from Ledger, I thought. The tournament is very close, with no player taking control - yet. Gormally could be well placed, having played the other 3 of the top 4 seeds, but any of the leading group could yet win it.

Trying to work out the pairings is an amusing task, but I'm pretty sure Olson-Gormally will be one of them, seeing as Danny has played the other four white-seekers in the scoregroup.
Correct as usual :)

Expletive me those round 7 pairings are a mess. Very "the algorithm went down a rabbit hole and can't get up".

(The problem figure there is Head, who has played Stubbs, Starley, Latypova and Khoury. I can produce pairings that keep everybody on the same side and don't have the leaping float at the bottom, but it requires changing who upfloats from the 3 to the 3½ scoregroup.)

Without even changing pairings that far up (though not with the 'right' colours - but still acceptable)
Webb 2.5 v Head 2.5
Khoury 2 v Latypova 2.5
Gordon 2 v Willison 1

Good point, Danny has won quickly today; looks like Hebden may win to stay a half point ahead of him, but Mark has yet to play Nick Pert

The current Hebden position is a tablebase draw, but he does still have practical winning chances.

Roger is playing well in the over 65s with a half point lead going into Round 6.

Well Hebden did not win, so its 5 players on 5/7 going into the last two rounds, with all to play for.
I think I am right in saying that they kick off at 10am today.

Yes, play started at 10 for the remaining 15 players.

Is this some kind of Squid Game thing where the losers get eliminated?
"Do you play chess?"
"Yes, but I prefer a game with a better chance of cheating."

It seems a bit out of the ordinary to start at 10 am for the penultimate round as well as the last one. At Milton Keynes in the Seniors we play this afternoon as normal, with Sunday morning being the only early start.

As I understand, there is a wedding at the venue in the evening, hence the early start.
