Good luck, Roger, in your last two games!
And also to his opponent, another forum regular, Brian Valentine.

"Expletive me those round 7 pairings are a mess."

I think Round 9 might be as well...

Looks like Hebden-Pert, Olson-Ledger, Harvey-Gormally at the top, provided the 4½-and-below scoregroups pair.

Harvey and Gormally have already played each other.

Ach, so they have. They'll both have to downfloat to the 4½ group then.

Sucikova, by the way, has a live WIM norm chance, but what result she needs will depend on who she gets in round 9.

A norm as long as she plays a 2012 I thought albeit that was a hasty calculation.

I was expecting Harvey-Pert & Olsen-Ledger unless I've missed something.

Hmmm. My calculations were that if she gets Gormally, she only needs to turn up; if she plays Finn, she needs to win.

(Willison's 1936 not being a real 1936 hurts her here, because it means she has to put Gordon's rating in at its face value.)

Ah, I hadn't realised it wasn't a real 1936

Perhaps the biggest surprise of all in the pairings is that there were no further withdrawals:

So a pairing against Gormally would be right up her alley
"Do you play chess?"
"Yes, but I prefer a game with a better chance of cheating."

65+ - And Roger is in a rather strong position after beating my old team-mate Brian...

Perhaps this should be in the Pedant's thread but Jack is not totally accurate in his assessment of the situation. She needs to do more than turn up. She has to make a move (indeed both players do) ie the minimum requirements for a game have to take place.

So what are the bets as to who will win the trophy tomorrow?
