Good question, that's why I have refrained from naming the Candidates, I wanted to check if it was common knowledgeDavid Sedgwick wrote: ↑Mon Sep 13, 2021 11:45 pmWhere?Mick Norris wrote: ↑Mon Sep 13, 2021 10:59 pmI have been told that the information is in the public domain

Whatever information various people have, think they have or don't have, this cannot go on. The sooner there is a level playing field, the better.

I would suggest that if the information really was truly in the public domain Mick would need to be told and David wouldn't have to ask where.David Sedgwick wrote: ↑Mon Sep 13, 2021 11:45 pmWhere?Mick Norris wrote: ↑Mon Sep 13, 2021 10:59 pmI have been told that the information is in the public domain
I would also suggest that whatever the reason the ECF have for choosing not to publish this information once it is available, it is on balance not a good idea to refrain from publishing.
I would finally suggest that the last few posts are a good reason why significant information should* be published as soon as possible.
update:
This is a good thing.

Re: Nominations 2021
The nominations are on the ECF website.
I am not going to comment on anything on substance, but did note that one of the people nominating the unopposed candidate for Director of Junior Chess (AH) is the Director of Junior Chess. A typo?

I believe that existing Directors are allowed to nominate themselves.Joseph Conlon wrote: ↑Tue Sep 14, 2021 12:22 pmI am not going to comment on anything on substance, but did note that one of the people nominating the unopposed candidate for Director of Junior Chess (AH) is the Director of Junior Chess. That would also explain how the retiring Director of Women's Chess nominated himself to stand as Chairman of Governance
Other than having been a Labour councillor, I'm not sure of his qualifications for Chair of Governance. If tact and diplomacy are required qualities, are they present?

Re: Nominations 2021
The nominations for elections at the Annual General Meeting to be held on Saturday 16 October have now been published on the ECF website.
The reason for the delay from last Thursday is that I judged it to be in the best long term interest of the ECF as there were active discussions taking place at reconciliation between two candidates with different outlooks on how the organisation should move forward. During the period since Thursday I have been in regular contact with both the candidates and other senior figures in the Board and the Chairman of Governance. All agreed with me that a delay was appropriate, though we were all anxious to publish as soon as it was clear whether there would be any withdrawals of candidacy.
It became apparent yesterday that progress was not being made and it was agreed to publish this morning.
I still believe that the right course of action was taken and that the majority of ECF members would agree that a short delay was not too high a price to pay if there were a prospect of a more united Board in the future. Certainly, that was higher on my agenda than satisfying the impatient curiosity of those calling for immediate publication, particularly as some of the more vociferous have stated that they are not in membership of the ECF anyway.

Could one detect a payback for a perceived pro Truran bias in the handling of the recent complaint?Carl Hibbard wrote: ↑Tue Sep 14, 2021 12:58 pmChris Fegan in Governance who could have possibly guessed that one
There would seem evidence of a Pein camp v Truran camp battle in the Director of Women's Chess post.

I have served the ECF in various ways for over 35 years and I have been an ECF Direct Member since the scheme was introduced in 1990.
I do not in any way doubt your integrity and good faith, but I still believe that you took the wrong course of action.
I hope that Council will have the opportunity before the next Annual General Meeting to decide whether it wishes to make prompt publication a requirement.
