Right Move to close
Re: Right Move to close
By the way Carl, what did you think the cost of publication was?
I would be interested to compare the figure you had in mind with some of the incredible and almost reprehensible speculation about the Certificate of Merit

The true cost of CoM is still not known is it?

No, and even costs of The Right Move cannot be aggregated into those for CoM so I'm unclear as to the point of your comment.Carl Hibbard wrote: The true cost of CoM is still not known is it?
You could ask this question within every other thread on this forum (no matter how relevant) I suppose.

I was answering the comment from Andrew regarding the "incredible and almost reprehensible speculation" regarding the actual cost of CoM, which as I said has not been reported yet?John Upham wrote:No, and even costs of The Right Move cannot be aggregated into those for CoM so I'm unclear as to the point of your comment.

Re: Right Move to close
Assuming we agree the current cost is £420 per issue which goes to pay the content provider and the producer what would you say was a reasonable cost and who would you recommend to do the work at those rates?Carl Hibbard wrote: Seems a lot to me for an on-line PDF distribution?
Two minor requirements are that each issue is produced in a timely fashion and contains original content.

Well, we could debate that further as I make my living from chess and have 4 kids to feed, so this has hit me quite hard.
But I accept the decision with good grace.
I cannot really comment on COM, that is for the Board to do.

I find this surprising. I flick through it and think that most of the content has already been published on the ECF website, so what's the point of also publishing it in a magazine?Adam Raoof wrote:Surprisingly for some, ChessMoves is perceived as a very important benefit to members.
The Right Move does have some benefit though - I can do the puzzles (usually )

Not all DMs have access to the internet. It's not printed any more, just distributed electronically and if a DM requests it they can have a print copy instead.Ian Thompson wrote:I find this surprising. Adam, can you confirm that the current editor of chess moves, Andrew Walker cannot play chess, nor is particularly interested in the game. Is this correct?

It's not appropriate to talk about members of ECF staff on this Forum, so please resist the temptation.andrew martin wrote:Adam, can you confirm that the current editor of chess moves, Andrew Walker cannot play chess, nor is particularly interested in the game. Is this correct?

Why is it inappropriate? I thought this forum was independent of the ECF (hence www.ecforum.org.uk rather than ecfforum.org.uk).

No idea, I just felt that was a lot a month for a single issue - perhaps it isn't?John Upham wrote:Assuming we agree the current cost is £420 per issue which goes to pay the content provider and the producer what would you say was a reasonable cost and who would you recommend to do the work at those rates?

It is, but it is still inappropriate to name and discuss employees at the ECF Office, and we all accept that, no matter what our feelings. That's why this Forum is so great, and continues to be great.Jon D'Souza-Eva wrote:Why is it inappropriate?
