No thanks
The first Bolton event is sorted, the second will be filled with MCF juniors - I'm already fielding enquiries from non-juniors or non-MCF players and having to turn them away

We are shortly to introduce an online entry facility for the Manchester Rapidplay on Sunday 6 March (plugging away shamelessly.........)

Re: Nigel Short tour
Mick - you would be surprised at how far people will travel to play a World Championship contender!
We have Jesmond's ZHEMING ZHANG the reigning British Under 8 and 9 Champion (http://www.saund.co.uk/britbase/britchamps.html) competing on 15th February in Hendon.
From http://peterleechessclub.co.uk/yabb/YaB ... 1247999850
"A brief chess biography of Zheming: Last summer, aged 6, he attended a 'Chess Camp' in Beijing and found that he enjoyed the game. He attended Jesmond Junior Chess Club last season and though his school does not yet have a chess club of it's own, he has also been allowed to attend the Chess Club at St Teresa's Primary school in Heaton, where he has been getting regular training from Tim Adams. He has played in several NJCA junior tournaments at Under-9 level winning some, but not all of them. However he is clearly outstanding in his age-group. His first Adult tournament came in the Jesmond Rapidplay where he managed a creditable 2/5."

Re: Nigel Short tour
As mentioned in the new edition of Chess, Nigel will be playing blitz simuls, giving a talk (especially commenting on his great result in Gibraltar) and signing his dvds at the London Chess Centre on Baker Street from 11am on Sunday 13th February.
This will be a mini event to kick off the tour and give people a taster of what is to come!

Looking forward to seeing you and Nigel at Winchester College. We have 12 excited kids coming to play from Yateley Manor and it should be a fun evening!

Please visit www.brentwoodchessclub.org/itsshort.html if you'd like a ticket for the simul/lecture tour. A great way to support chess and charity!

Re: Nigel Short tour
I think most of the events are full now apart from a couple of places at Coulsdon and a handful at Brentwood (where discounts are on offer!) but check with your local one just in case.
Please sign up now if interested or come along to the launch at the Chess Shop on Baker Street from 11am on Sunday.

We still have about 8 places on each simul at Hendon for adults and juniors - please email [email protected] or ring 07855 036 537 to confirm your attendance. Golders Green Rapidplay is this Saturday 12th February (http://www.goldersgreenchess.blogspot.com) and you can enter there!

Still places at the Brentwood Simul as well. Prices have been reduced to £25 for adult and £20 for juniors due to some sponsorship.

for the last exciting simul at Brentwood which had Kasparov.

Score at Coulsdon CF +25=5-0, in Nigel's favour of course...

Re: Nigel Short tour
A big thank-you to everyone who came down yesterday. We had a great time hosting it and I believe everyone enjoyed playing. Am delighted we managed to get the full 30. We started a bit late as the traffic between here and London delaying C-J and Nigel after the morning press launch, but being the pro he is, Nigel was more or less out of the car and up to the board. I had offered to fill time before their arrival by doing a simul myself, but for some reason this didn't seem to create the spark of excitment I had hoped.......!
The first loss didn't officially come until at least 3 hours in; Nigel seemed to be going at quite a pace round the room as well. Congratulations to the 6 players (I previously believed it was 5) that drew. I believe that Ronnie Cohen was the first, following - in no particular order (and I hope I have this list correct! - will correct it later if not) Gavin Poludniowski, Victor Bluett, Christopher Archer-Lock, Kevin Bailey and Paul Heaton.

Re: Nigel Short tour
Nigel's results so far -
Chess Shop +9
Coulsdon +24 =6
Brentwood +18
Dr Short apologises for his lacklustre scores so far but respectfully reminds people he is the oldest player in the world's top hundred and it's way past his bedtime
