SO WHO'S GOING TO SHEFFIELD? I AM!
I’ve waded through the British Championships thread and I’d say it’s a good place to keep all that really interesting stuff!
But the Summer starts here! The excitement is building. There’s a great line-up already for the main event – congrats to CJ for a remarkable turn out of our top GMs. And London League legend Graeme Buckley will take a few scalps – mark my word! Great to have Mark Hebden back after his sojourn last year. Is there a niggling feeling of well done ECF?
I wonder whether Yorkshire can better last year’s brilliant turn-out from Kent players? More importantly the Reuters ticker-tape is reporting that I’ll be playing in the Under-160 and the weekender. It's going to be great! But who else is coming?

Jack. Brilliant! A British Championship without you wouldn't be the same! Another start like last year and we'll all look forward to seeing you in the commentary room and in print in the national chess columns! Anyone else signing up?

Yep - I think it is either 21 or 22 years since I played at a British (one of the two in a row at Eastborne) but I am back this year, having snuck into the Championship with a final round draw with Hawkins at a qualifier ...

I'll probably be popping along (opening and closing days and the middle weekend... there's a quiz you say?)

I intend to go for the first week to play in the Under 140s, then hang around for the ECF Board Meeting on Saturday. Unfortunately, the entry has to be handed in on an official Championship entry form. I don't have a printer, so I have to wait for the Office to post me one.
I wonder if Short, Adams etc. had to enter on an official entry form...

I might wander up to help Dave with IT at some point but I don't have the time or the inclination to play

Carl,
Has it been established that the venue can provide enough bandwidth for the live broadcasts and commentary?
Is ChessBase going to let us see the games via playchess.com?

It appears there is access but it's 'open' to everyone so it's possible but hard to be sure of the performance on the dayJohn Upham wrote:Has it been established that the venue can provide enough bandwidth for the live broadcasts and commentary?
No clue, Adam?John Upham wrote:Is ChessBase going to let us see the games via playchess.com?
I would say since there is only going to be one IT person on site (I believe...) that only live games will be covered

I am happy to allow ChessBase to carry the live feed as long as it doesn't crash our server, or give us any more work. This appears to be the case, so I assume they will!

I will be sneaking up to Sheffield for the Soanes (U150) Weekender. I would enter a longer event if the Championships were being held further south, but such is life...
Re: SO WHO'S GOING TO SHEFFIELD? I AM!
As I work 5 mins walk from the venue I think I'll pop in

Is 181 entries as of the 30th of May about normal for years gone by?
Cheers

Last year's thread may give some insight.Carl Hibbard wrote:Is 181 entries as of the 30th of May about normal for years gone by?

On a structural note for the forum, is it worth the British having its own forum area, either a dedicated one for each year or a generic one?
You may note the length of last year's thread. If for example you wished to find out how to award one and a half points for a single game, you've got a lot of material to search.
