Surrey have won
...the County Championship for the first time in a very, very long time! (Surrey 9-7 Kent).
Congratulations to the winning team (and the winners of all the other sections, too.)

After missing the finals due to being stuck in a traffic jam a few years ago, some of the team left at 9.15 a.m. just to play safe.

Rather imprecise. Since Surrey last won in 1954, I make it 57 years,54 years, to be precise.

Is that measured from the date of the match or conclusion of the dispute ?John Philpott wrote:Rather imprecise. Since Surrey last won in 1954, I make it 57 years

we should not rule out Surrey lodging an appeal against their victory.E Michael White wrote:Is that measured from the date of the match or conclusion of the dispute ?John Philpott wrote:Rather imprecise. Since Surrey last won in 1954, I make it 57 years

Gulp. You're right, 1954. I knew it was 1954, but worked out 2011 - 1954 = 54.John Philpott wrote:Alex Holowczak wroteRather imprecise. Since Surrey last won in 1954, I make it 57 years,54 years, to be precise.

Good to see Surrey doing something right, but most of the problems have been nothing to do with chess!
Congratulations to the captains, Graeme Buckley and Owen Phillips.
I see the Redhill players scored 5 draws out of 5, including two playing each other, and I suspect they travelled in the same car.

I've played alongside 14 of the minor counties contestants in club teams this season. 9 in the Beds team and 5 in the Herts team.
