Something I have wondered, what were you doing in that picture?

Obviously I was pulling my trousers up.

I'm intrigued to know why some players (nine in round 1 and one in round 2) received a "Draw by default" in the Soanes (U150) weekender.
Can anyone satisfy my curiosity (in this regard)?

Isn't it just the way that particular pairing and results program handles a half point bye?

Thanks. Because one player was also separately listed as having a bye some doubt crept into my mind.

A club-mate was playing so I'm keen to know how he got on.

Just got back. A five hour drive from North Shields to Kent. Just removed the sunglasses! For those that weren't there, it's fantastic! The venue is amazing. Great when we are all playing together in the same arena - juniors, seniors, grand masters and the ordinary club players. The protective flooring was impressive - it must have cost a fortune. A bit warm in the commentary room, but the place was still packed-out every session. Just worked out that I spent £57 on black coffee. And if the Soanes results are available tonight I shall sleep soundly. Good luck to everyone next week - especially Mrs Edwards who has a very tricky jigsaw puzzle to finish!

Today I took a day trip to the British. It cost me fifty pounds and two and a half hours travelling each way for the sake of three and a half hours there - and I really enjoyed it, even though all I was doing was watching games - got quite engrossed in Howell-Jones. It was well worth the trip.

One point that does have to be laboured - I cannot begin to imagine the effort that goes into planning and organising an event like this when there are so many bases to cover and you need to cater for both the comfort of the players and the needs of spectators, whether in the venue or watching from their computer at home (having seen a little of Batcheler - Adair at the venue I actually saw the finishing moves in my living room one metro and two train rides later. The public face of the championship is - quite rightly - the players, but Lara, Alex and the rest of the team are the true heroes.

I also went yesterday and was very impressed, as I was last week when observing on line.

There should be no apostrophe here.
