Director of Chess for Schools

Post by Laurie Roberts » Tue Sep 30, 2008 7:19 am

There is a vacancy for Director of Chess for Schools. It might be helpful to add some description of essential requirements (presumably being an ECF member!) and desirable (e.g. would being an ex-teacher be something that would be attractive? Or do you just want people with admnistrative skills? etc

I assume that this post is suitable for one of the people who have been heavily involved in this project?

The job specification is:
"Has overall responsibility for supervising the national Chess for Schools scheme. This includes the delivery of the chess sets supplied by the sponsors to the schools, development and sale of follow-up support packages to schools, and the establishment of a national network of affiliated chess academies. Is also responsible for identification and implementation of any other measures necessary to ensure the success of the Chess for Schools scheme.

Is responsible for the work of the Manager of Chess for Schools and any other officers who may be appointed to support the initiative.

Liaises with any other ECF officers who are supporting the scheme and in particular the Director of Marketing, the Director of Junior Chess & Education, the Manager of Coaching, and the ECF Office.”

The people currently involved in the project are heavily involved elsewhere. The person required for the director role will need administrative skills and the respect of the junior chess organisational community. They will need to have or obtain enhanced CRB clearance. I prefer not to go further on requirements since an arbitrary requirement may preclude a good candidate from coming forward.
