Grr.... So your theory is that only a selected inner circle are allowed to have advance knowledge, in order to put off others? Or is it just possible that there are a number of stages in planning an event, and that venue and timing are still being worked on?Roger de Coverly wrote:Perhaps you have the advantage of knowing the "when" and "where".Sean Hewitt wrote:Agreed. Re: National Club Championship - what is the point?
Something like "It's going to be in the Midlands and in the Summer" or "It's going to be in the London area and in the Autumn" is broad brush detail that if decided ought to be announced. If clubs are to be invited to send teams, the when and where are decision points as to whether they bother or not. There's still a relatively wide choice of weekend events, so a revived National Club could well be an either or choice. It always was. On the old Knock out format, with matches played at weekends, it was sometimes a choice between the National Club match and a possible Congress entry.PeterFarr wrote:Or is it just possible that there are a number of stages in planning an event, and that venue and timing are still being worked on?
If it were to be held somewhere that a number of the teams were expected to be local, this could affect the format as if earlier starts and later finishes were plausible, then four or even five hour sessions could be used, instead of the three hour ones apparently proposed.

The e-mail circulated by the controller that was referred to earlier in this thread included the sentence:
The event will take place over a single weekend to be held in the Spring of 2014 at a venue located in central England.

You took the words right out of my mouth.John Philpott wrote:The e-mail circulated by the controller that was referred to earlier in this thread included the sentence:The event will take place over a single weekend to be held in the Spring of 2014 at a venue located in central England.
Obviously there are budget considerations but I hope the ECF will use the competition reboot to contact all clubs about the event and invite them to send a team. That said, I do think those of us who are also County officials - and who try to be positive about new ventures rather than responding with nit picking negativity - will help by spreading the word.

There's a section on defaults, but not on default time. Zero, half hour or an hour?Alex Holowczak wrote:The website has now gone live here
Are you allowed to enter more than one team in a rating restricted division?

Thank you; it would be helpful to have some accommodation suggestions and/or cost estimates so that the overall cost of participation can be assessed.Alex Holowczak wrote:The website has now gone live here: http://www.englishchess.org.uk/competit ... pionships/

It's a venue that will be used by e2e4 in March 2014 and also in the past and by BUCA. That's not a help if you are not an e2e4 regular or a student. If the ECF have got a similar deal, the latest e2e4 prices are at http://www.e2e4.org.uk/high_wycombe/Mar2014/index.htmPaul Buswell wrote: Thank you; it would be helpful to have some accommodation suggestions and/or cost estimates so that the overall cost of participation can be assessed.

I have to admit that I have never even considered the National Club event before, but this looks like a very good plan that could breathe new life into a patient that many seemed to have long ago written off for dead.
I hope it gets the support it deserves. I will certainly promote it around our county to try and generate some entries. Well done to Alex and the rest of the team putting it together.

The prices Roger has linked to are the correct prices. It's not published on the website yet because we need to finalise the way for teams can book rooms. I took a punt that that announcement could wait until tomorrow, or if I don't get chance tomorrow, Wednesday.Paul Buswell wrote:Thank you; it would be helpful to have some accommodation suggestions and/or cost estimates so that the overall cost of participation can be assessed.
