Have venues been decided for British Championship 2016 & 2017?
With retirement in 2015, I hope to play more in retirement !

It is possible they have been decided. They haven't been announced. For 2016, an announcement would be expected at the latest during the 2015 event in Warwick. 2017 may not be announced or even determined until 2016.

I am aware that there was a recent meeting about this. I know nothing of the decisions or when they will be announced.

Why on earth would the English Chess Federation want to hold their championship ever (again) in Scotland, especially after last Thursday?

Tim, for similar reasons to those of FIDE who held tournaments in London not long ago despite being at loggerheads with the ECF?
"They have their own Championship."

So does Wales, and many English counties, but it doesn't disqualify them from hosting the
British Championships.

Surely Scotland and Scottish chess are far more disconnected from England and English chess than are the Welsh?
Scotland has been far longer in FIDE than the Welsh, for one thing,
It's somewhat disingenuous to argue otherwise, I think, and bringing county championships into the discussion is beside the point. Counties are regions; the Scots and Welsh are nations.
Hasn't the whole concept of the British Championship has become debased over recent years? (Though the wholesale takeover by India does seem to have been stopped.)
I am not arguing that it should be replaced by an English Championship, so long as there still is a UK, but I looked in vain on the ECF website for some statement of what the eligibility criteria are (except for saying you have to be a member of your national federation).
By all means let Scots and the Welsh (and even some Irish perhaps) play in it, but to expect the Scots to host it in preference to one of their own events does not seem realistic to me.

Eligibility conditions are on the British Championships website

Entitlement to Play in the British Championships
Only players who fulfil one of the following criteria shall have the right of entry to the Championship sections of the Annual Congresses:
(a) British Citizenship, or
(b) British Overseas Territories Citizenship, or
(c) Citizenship of Ireland, or
(d) not less than one years continuous ordinary residence in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland ending on the 30th June in the calendar year of the Championship in question, or
(e) not less than one years continuous ordinary residence in Ireland ending on the 30th June in the calendar year of the Championship in question, or
(f) not less than one years continuous ordinary residence in the Channel Islands ending on the 30th June in the calendar year of the Championship in question, or
(g) not less than one years continuous ordinary residence in the Isle of Man ending on the 30th June in the calendar year of the Championship in question
(qualification by title, rating, results etc. needed as well)

Lengthy though it is, it's not believed to be complete as qualifiers via recent tournaments may not be recorded and in turn that can knock on to subsequent events.

Hull the 2017 city of culture is a possible venue for the 2017 British according to item 8 of the ECF Board meeting 16 Feb 2015 minutes.
