It probably won't but I guess it could - some may have given proxy votes reluctantly to Phil on the basis that the governance committee could be relied on to keep him in line, or on the basis that his fallings out were narrowly confined to just a couple of directors. Not completely implausible.

People might feel it was a bit late to give such dramatic and consequential advice though.

The tellers have been out for some time. Meanwhile, the Pearce report has been well received.

I can't remember this ultimatum being stated quite as explicitly in Chris Majer's report. While not a massive fan of Phil Ehr we need a CEO more than we need a Chairman of the Governance Committee.

Are you sure it wasn't that graders would strike unless measures were taken to improve the ease of result submission? The BCF had tried six monthly grading in the late 1990s. By the time that January had rolled into February and February into March, it became clear that the technical problems of implementing it were beyond the capability of the BCF's then systems. Grading is something that the ECF should be most circumspect about messing with. Ruthless data accuracy, something demanded by Chris and implemented by Richard Haddrell was needed before fancy stuff like more frequent grades.

Not sure it is new info about Phil or Chris' view of him

Phil has support within the Governance Committee so the GC is obviously divided like the rest of the ECF

And in the news that every chess player in Yorkshire who isn't Andrew Zigmond or Rupert Jones (our man in Euston) is watching York RI A have gone 1.5-0.5 up against Bradford A in the clash between two of Yorkshire's top three teams.

And others might feel, rather strongly, that it is no place for the chair of governance to seek to influence a vote over the election of a board.

Because it's my son's 21st birthday party.

Good enough reason? Sorry to let real life intervene for a moment.

No he along with David A were very opposed - something to do with the ECF grade being a measure of playing strength rather than current form.

That explains it then. He was clearly right to take the position he did.
