Game Fee

Post by Paul McKeown » Wed Jul 12, 2017 4:42 pm

What is the current level of game fee?
What will the game fee from September 2017 be?

I note the following http://www.englishchess.org.uk/ecf-fees ... mber-2017/. What does "ii. Junior only ECF graded congresses £3.75" mean? Is that per half-game, or is that for a player for all games in a given tournament, or is that for the whole tournament, regardless of the number of players? There is no explanation given.

Either £ nil or the full cost of Bronze membership. There's an offer of three free games per player per League. On the fourth game the League gets a bill for the cost of Bronze membership.

It's a participation cost for a non-member or "not a Silver" member to play in a tournament. The equivalent for adults is £ 7.50. That's much higher than Junior organisers pay at the moment, so expect some screaming when they belatedly realise this.

There are threads here and there about this on the forum. It was originally a proposal back in February and ratified with some amendments at the April Finance Council meeting.

Roger,

So £3.75 per player for the tournament from September, i.e. not per half-game? Or is this per game?

What is the current rate?

There was no change in 2016, so going back to the Minutes for 2015, we read
http://www.englishchess.org.uk/wp-conte ... sion-2.pdf
14
Determination of Game Fee
The motion proposes to increase the game fee to £2.50 (standardplay) and £1.25 (rapidplay), and
to
60p (standard play) and 30p (rapidplay) for junior events
So for a 5 round Junior Rapidplay, the ECF are increasing the non-member cost from £ 1.50 per player to £ 3.75 per player.

I suggest you also call the office - I thought you were running a tournament.

I run lots of tournaments, at the moment. I wish the information was provided more clearly on the ECF website.

I hadn't until very recently appreciated, and others may not have done, that - although ECF non-members can play 3 standard club/league/county games (or 7 rapidplay club/league/county games) free of charge - standard and rapidplay games are aggregated in deciding whether a charge is payable. So, for example, 2 standard games plus 4 rapidplay games is liable to result in an invoice.

But they all have to be in the same club/league/county?

Well, if they're split across different clubs/leagues/counties (say, someone who plays for one club in the London League and for another club in a county league somewhere) then aggregation doesn't apply. So yes, I had in mind where it's the same club/league/county.

Does that ever actually happen? Do any leagues combine standard and rapid games? Maybe some clubs do.

Well of course both clubs and leagues will often submit both standard play and rapidplay games. The fact that they may see the games as belonging to different internal competitions is irrelevant. The ECF does the aggregating of all the games submitted by a billable organisation.

The Devon League has both standardplay and rapidplay competitions.

I stand corrected. I have not come across any.
