Player name query

Post by John Upham » Thu Dec 28, 2017 12:35 pm

Does anyone know the correct name for a payer listed as

de La Motte de Brons de Vauvert, Sak

whose ECF grading code is 309787A from Oxford City Chess Club ?

This record in the ECF membership list is causing an import process to barf when attempting to import the ECF membership list into the various LMS systems I manage.

The record is on line 2292 of today's membership list.

He is shown as de La Motte, Saik on the OCA database.

What is your LMS software using? ASCII or UNICODE or something else?

The back-end databases uses MySQL as their engine.

I download the Membership List, remove the first record / header and then export CSV format.

This is then imported into the MySQL db via the phpMyAdmin GUI.

The default character set (I suspect this is what you are asking) is utf-8.

Diaereses seem to be an issue.

I used to have a problem uploading the master database into UTU because of a player with the first name Gaël, but his name has now been changed to Gael. It looks like the bug has been partially corrected in the current version of UTU: Dr de la Motte was accepted last time I uploaded but the letters with diaereses were replaced with question marks.

I presume he's related to this French bishop.
