County Championships 2018 Live

Post by Mike Gunn » Sat Jul 07, 2018 1:44 pm

Has anyone got a link? TWIC suggests there should be something on Chess24, but I can't find anything.

I applaud your dedication to this event, but can't help thinking that even most players at the venue would rather be watching the football than looking at their own games.

The County Final also clashed with England's last QF in 2006 (v Portugal). My opponent thanked me for resigning in time for him to watch the match! (He meant it well).

Credit to you for taking it well!

Early resigners have a choice of viewing today as England women are very well-placed against New Zealand.

And there was me hoping this thread would provide an escape from the madness seemingly affecting this green and erstwhile pleasant land. Ah well!

In addition to the close of play post referenced by Andrew, the County Championships results server was showing the teams and results as they happened from mid afternoon with the occasional headline update post on the home front page. The Open Championship and the U180s went to the wire. Not quite live but as close as this administrator could manage.

I think the right link is this one:

http://ecflms.org.uk/lms/node/36/home

Championship Results

OPEN LANCASHIRE....8.0* - 8.0...YORKSHIRE (*win on tie break)
MINOR SURREY.....9.0 - 7.0...LINCOLNSHIRE
U180 YORKSHIRE....8.5 - 7.5 ...WARWICKSHIRE
U160 YORKSHIRE....5.0 - 11.0...LANCASHIRE
U140 YORKSHIRE....6.0 - 10.0...NOTTINGHAMSHIRE
U120 WARWICKSHIRE....5.0 - 7.0...NORFOLK
U100 LEICESTERSHIRE....7.0 - 5.0...LANCASHIRE

Congrats to Lancashire (and the other winners).

Trivia question: when was the last time (if ever) that all sections of the County Championships were won by different counties? (It wasn't possible this year.)

Minor Surrey
U180 Warwickshire
U160 Yorkshire
U140 Nottinghamshire
U120 Norfolk

A great day. Thanks to Bill O'Rourke for driving the mini- bus. There's a pattern developing here. Two years running, red rose beats white on board count; two years running, I swindle a draw against the same opponent two pawns down. Amazing luck.

Answer to Chris's Trivia Question which I'm pretty sure I've given before in the County Championship thread.

The last time all the sections were won by different counties was just 2015

Open : Yorkshire
Minor : Essex
U180 : Middlesex
U160 : Lancashire
U140 : Kent
U120 : Hertfordshire
U100 : Nottinghamshire

I am only seriously expecting Neil to answer this - when did Essex last not field any team on Finals day?
