And Muir finally throws in the towel leaving Young on a very respectable 2.5/6.
With a sub 2000 rating he's not even eligible for a rating prize!
I did say that to the ECF and I feel that the ECF should have offer a Rating prize for U2050

Which remains an utterly irrational decision.

A seismic error just played by White in Muir-Young
Dear me! That's more Frank Muir than Andrew Muir
I don't suppose the idea was to pick up the queen with a knight fork?
No, I don't suppose it was.

The position after 21...Rxd5 is an extremely familiar tabiya is the QGD Semi-Slav Botvinnik System. Muir simply forgot the theory - which is 22 Rxc4 Rxg5; 23 Qd4 Kb8; 24 Rxc6 Rxg3+; 25 fxg3 Qxc6; which has been analysed out as a draw by engines; and which Kramnik & Anand hacked out to a predictable conclusion to less-than-universal acclaim in the 2014 London Classic

According to Chess-results, between the Major Open & AM Open, Shreyas Royal has so far picked up 101.6 rating points, taking his 'live' rating to about 2029!

David is quite right, although for us mere mortals doing the memory work is not at all easy. It's well established that every main line of the Botvinnik System is a moreorless forced draw, and yet I've scored 4/4 with it!

As for the 2050 floor for rating prizes - I'm not too bothered, but I don't think it is a very effective deterrent. For someone of my strength, qualifying is now so hard that you simply have to take the chance to play if you ever get it.

I thought David Eggleston battled well against John Emms, allowing his opponent to double rooks on the 7th (Emms's 7th, that is) to preserve his advanced e6 pawn. See https://www.chessbomb.com/arena/2018-br ... mms_John_M.

Shreyas's August Fide rating is 1966, so adding 101.6 takes it to 2068. This is a ranking of world No2 at U10 (or Fide U9) level.

The American world No1 is nearly 100 points ahead of that, of course.

Never mind Sheyras Royal's remarkable progress. Never mind Jones-Adams on Bd 1

Announcing Roger - Kevin in the Forum Championship. Tomorrow. 2.30pm. Bring flask and sandwiches

Kevin undoubtedly preparing his secret weapon - talking to Roger before the game about the merits of the ECF Membership Scheme, and hoping to win on time before Roger finishes his counter-arguments. :P

Doesn't everyone define U9 ( for a 2018 event ) as meaning born in 2009 or later? The ECF does.

Absolutely - keep up the good work.

I see that others have noticed the dream pairing tomorrow.

Alex's idea is brilliant, but now you've published it, I doubt it will work.

Bizarrely, a friend rang me this evening and said people would only have eyes for that game, and would bring tea, biscuits and chocolate!

He is listed as a CM; does this mean he has been over 2200 in the past, or did he get the title by winning some junior championship?

On the August FIDE list he is 1966.

He was European Schools U7 champion in 2016. There was great excitement in England at the time.

This was the point I was trying to make when it was discussed on here before - is there any point in having a deterrent that is not a deterrent?
