Zapolskis - Young Well done to Daniel Young (again!). But what absolute dreck from Zapolskis

Meanwhile, on sub-2050-watch, Daniel Young has just tenderised another IM to move onto 4.5/8.

EDIT: impressive levels of cross-posting there

Heh, Daniel's Elo had crossed 2000 before that win. He's currently +41.6 on 1962, with another wedge to come. If he's not very careful, he'll qualify for a rating prize by the end of rd.9 :D. Indeed, another win, and he might win a place prize!

I'm backing the big guys to make 4/4.

Big moment for the title right now if Nick Pert can find 44...Bxe5!

Indeed. Though that would only seem to draw, it does seem that Adams missed this and his advantage will have gone. (Black's attack actually looks very scary.)

Jones and McShane have won, but Adams and Howell may only draw. That will still leave Adams a half point ahead of a group of three on six points, and still favourite for the title.

Oops, that idea didn't last long. Unusually careless by Mickey, and since he obviously missed the tactic he's slightly lucky that it didn't win.

Still room to go wrong on board 1. 0.00 is too early to chalk up the draw, especially this late on in a tiring event...

...although I suspect White has just offered a draw. Otherwise we'd have seen ...Qxe5 by now.

Prescient. I was wondering about the delay. Draw agreed.

Was trying to find reasons for the poor moves, but yeah, not great play at all. Amazing that Daniel Young has reached 50% and with 2.5/3 against IMs. Maybe he will get a pairing against a GM in the final round? :)
