Making hard work of it then not sure opening it up was the best plan maybe g5 instead of Rg8.Carl Hibbard wrote: ↑Sun Aug 05, 2018 12:13 pmAfter 26... c5 I expect Adams to make it look easy.Christopher Kreuzer wrote: ↑Sun Aug 05, 2018 12:01 pmEDIT: OK, Gormally-Adams is getting interesting, with an exchange for two pawns (Adams has the two pawns). Anyone care to say whether that is the sort of position Adams could grind out a win from?

Update: looks as though Adams might be messing it up. Another sign that his form has not been scintillating, albeit good enough.

It's the same old very strong, super solid Mickey - just with the odd unexpected mistake thrown in. I make him slight favourite in any playoff still.

Although it specifies the ratings used the document doesn't specify the method of calculatubg the TPR. Do you know the method ?LawrenceCooper wrote: ↑Sun Aug 05, 2018 8:57 amChampionship.
The n tied players will seeded, from 1 to n, based on their tournament performance rating (TPR) for the tournament.
This TPR will be calculated using the assigned ratings outlined above in this document.

Draw for Adams when he must have been expecting more. Good news for him is that Howell appears to have no chance of winning. Indeed, his position is going from bad to worse.

Win for Luke. His play got stronger as the tournament progressed, a common phenomenon with people who don't play much. Lovely attack with equal material, showing the value of coordinated pieces. That's my prediction gone then.

When did today's round start? I thought it was same start time as the other rounds. From the sounds of things I've missed most of the action.

Can Gawain really grind out a win from this? I don't think so.

Re: British Championship 2018
Error-strewn zeitnot shambles in Jackson - Longson where 78 Rxg7+ by Sheila won on the spot (78...Kxg7; 79 Qd4+). But after 78...Kh8? from Sarah, Sheila found TWMOB with 79 Rg8+?? when 79...Kxg8; 80 Qg5+ Kf8/h8 wins back the R - but 79 Qg5+ Kf7 doesn't. Sarah got it right. So halved by perpetual

Wow, Mickey went too far in not taking risks in a completely dominant position... and blunders and is now completely lost!

Just shows the dangers of "stopping playing" by trying to win by being too careful and keeping complete control. In anything like a normal game, Micky Adams would have played Rxh3 in almost an instant.
