Flip me - there are some frighteningly strong Juniors .... maybe there always were but I don't remember whether we all had grades and if they were published when I last played (Brighton 1972). I'll be watching the >65s with particular interest.

It's another one. The Welsh JG Cooper is an IM and would in be the Championship or possibly the over 50.

We really should ask people to make predictions: open until late Sunday evening, on the assumption that most or all plausible contenders will have 2/2.

They should also specify: a win in "regular time" or in tiebreaks?

For my part: it ought to be Adams by a mile. The British, after all. Even if he has skipped the vast majority of them, undefeated since Conquest in Blackpool 1988 is impressive! But there are more people able to draw with him this time around, and with only nine rounds, there is always the possibility that he meets all the best, draws with them all, and is overtaken. It happened in 1997, when he needed a round eleven, to win to join two players who were half a point ahead of him but drew with each other.

So I will say Adams, but in the tiebreaks.

What would I like to see? Well, James Adair getting to 2500, for a start!

My game is the only one in round 1 between two players with the same title.

My prediction: Adams to win without needing a playoff.

I find Chessbomb can sometimes be a better experience because one can bring up several game tabs, clicking easily between them. That said, a strong case can be made for Chess24 as well

I reckon that's a pretty big assumption. A lot of the round 1 games don't look like gimmes, especially for those with black, and round 2 will quite possibly see GM vs GM clashes.

But not many of the plausible candidates for the actual title will have already dropped points. Some GMs yes, but that is not the same. Says I.

Get the best of both worlds by simply opening up multiple chess24 tabs with the featured games you are interested in
