If I were any good at tactics, I'd be a GM by now. Expletive me, that was embarrassing.
Shame your opponent missed 27 Qh7 though. Quite pretty
I was also hoping he would play it. (I'd have allowed the mate if he had.)

It's nice that, despite chess24 and chessbase moving coverage of the British into the 21st century, we are retaining some old traditions, such as not being entirely sure which game we are watching
... or who the players really are. Yesterday Chessbase had a game Van Zyl-Rudd v De Coverly. I wonder how that happened.

Possibly worth flagging that Shreyas Royal currently has 4/5 in the Major Open (only gaining 70 rating pts so far)

Not that it means very much at such a young age, but I just checked how he compares to other players of his age worldwide. This kid was born just 1 week earlier: https://ratings.fide.com/card.phtml?event=30920019. A Fide rating of 2166!

I'm obviously not qualified to talk about the games, but I admired Jack's innovative method of keeping cool in the increasingly hot venue.

Kevin hoping you will get off the mark soon & there must be a real chance that you play Roger.

At least our managers are looking at whether we can wear shorts at work. The air con is not quite right atm & they are getting picky about how many shirt buttons we can open.

On the youngsters I'm impressed by Koby's 3/5 & perhaps he will end up with a performance rating over 2400. His only loss so far is to the Championship Leader.

There are two Jack Rudd's, so easy for someone at ChessBase to get it wrong if they aren't paying attention. Admittedly the other one adds Van Zyl to his name. He has played in the UK, at last year's London Classic Open for example.

As discussed in another thread, I'm not sure that is true. Exceptional results at a very early age often are a precursor of progress to the top level of the game.

Mohra played 20 games in the August rating period, scoring 8.5 against 2240 opposition in Open tournaments, so his rating is essentially a performance based on those games.

I would agree with that. Yesterday. Koby had Black, was outgraded by 125 points and yet took his opponent to school with a masterclass of how to play against 1 b4.

It's clear that if he sticks with chess, he will make it to the top of the game. What is less clear is that having a 200 elo lead over Shreyas at the age of 9, reliably indicates that he has more potential. As an example, I remember Etienne Bacrot always being higher rated than the older (3 months) Levon Aronian. Aronian became the better player of the 2.
