It's been a good game by Jack in Ghasi - Rudd. I was very impressed by Ghasi when watching some of his games in the English Rapidplay some months back. But Jack has made him look pretty lucklustre today. Likely he'll have won by the time I've finished this

It seems calling on my mental model of Keith Arkell was a decent strategic choice.

Does anyone know why Irish IM-elect David Fitzsimons didn't show up for his game? Transport glitch?
Or the organisers overlooking a withdrawal email?

That is better but was there an actual game or a forfeit win?

There were no forfeits today in the Championship itself, apart from Sue Maroroa's zero-point bye.

It's another one. The Welsh JG Cooper is an IM and would in be the Championship or possibly the over 50.

It seems there are at least three British players named John G. Cooper.

The former Welsh international is indeed an IM. He will become eligible for 65+ events next year in fact.

There is an English player rated 1925+ (now gaining 9 points) who is 65+ and was on Stewart Reuben's team in the World Seniors earlier this month.

Chess-results says the JGC in the Major Open (FIDE ID 466912) is from Hull, and rated 2192 but he doesn't have a published FIDE rating (yet). He was born in 1963 if the FIDE database is correct (which isn't always the case for ages).

Just a chess24 glitch then. Good; Fitzsimons will be trying for a GM norm I think. Otherwise he would probably have entered the Irish Championships which starts next Saturday.

Yes but in my experience some years are way out for Irish players - after we approached them for availability on senior teams and they turned out to be considerably younger. While one player on our 65+ team this year was originally down as born decades later.

So it's probably the same with other federations. Especially when there are players with very similar names there is always some doubt until it is verified.
