The BCF started collecting dates of birth for use in grading in the early 1990s. Part of the plan was to use them as identifiers, but it didn't work terribly well. Assigning a unique code and getting organisers to quote it worked rather better.Tim Harding wrote: ↑Sat Jul 28, 2018 8:08 pm
So it's probably the same with other federations. Especially when there are players with very similar names there is always some doubt until it is verified.
What happened in Jackson-Eggleston?IM Jack Rudd wrote: ↑Sat Jul 28, 2018 7:24 pmThere were no forfeits today in the Championship itself, apart from Sue Maroroa's zero-point bye.

That's not what happened. There was an even number of players, 64 to be precise. At some time on Friday, she appears to have declared an inability to play in the first round. David Anderton, who is playing in the Seniors starting today was drafted in as a filler. Had they not done so, the lowest rated player would have got the bye. But it's not the practice to have an odd number of players, someone would have been promoted from the Major Open had such a vacancy arisen.Gavin Hughes wrote: ↑Sun Jul 29, 2018 7:50 amIm surprised that Sue Marora didnt get a whole point for not being paired due to odd numbers.
That's curious because the online game services have Jackson winning the point but with no moves displayed.Gavin Hughes wrote: ↑Sun Jul 29, 2018 7:50 amEggy won.JustinHorton wrote: ↑Sat Jul 28, 2018 10:42 pmWhat happened in Jackson-Eggleston?IM Jack Rudd wrote: ↑Sat Jul 28, 2018 7:24 pmThere were no forfeits today in the Championship itself, apart from Sue Maroroa's zero-point bye.

It showed all his winning moves on chess24.JustinHorton wrote: ↑Sun Jul 29, 2018 10:05 amAnother oddity is that Gwilym Price's victory over Jovanka Houska, presumably the result of the day, currently appears as a draw on Chessbomb.
Yeah I saw that, so I'm well confused.Nick Burrows wrote: ↑Sun Jul 29, 2018 11:01 amIt showed all his winning moves on chess24.JustinHorton wrote: ↑Sun Jul 29, 2018 10:05 amAnother oddity is that Gwilym Price's victory over Jovanka Houska, presumably the result of the day, currently appears as a draw on Chessbomb.
You have to regard the result recorded on chess-results.com as the definitive version. With all the boards in the British being DGTs, players are instructed to leave the final position without resetting the pieces along with the signed scoresheets.
